The San Diego TrEAT Yourself Well Campaign

TrEAT Yourself Well is a landmark study, educational program and social marketing campaign funded by the California Department of Health Services, and Cancer Prevention Section, which recognizes the importance of restaurant nutrition on the health of Californians. The purpose of the study is to design and pilot test a program in San Diego to improve the nutritional quality of restaurant meals.

TrEAT Yourself Well is a great way to enjoy the wonderful tastes and experiences of restaurant dining while you still treat your body well. Restaurants participating in the San Diego TrEAT Yourself Well program offer a special selection of meals that your tastebuds will relish and your body will appreciate.

Restaurant chefs have created masterful dishes with interesting spices, fruits and vegetables to enhance your overall energy, health and well-being. Each designated TrEAT Yourself Well meal includes at least 2 servings of fruits and/or vegetables to give you vitamins, minerals and other nutrients your body needs for energy, stamina, and long term wellness. Fat calories are limited to less than 30% (or 20 grams), as recommended by leading health organizations.

The program is being administered by Accents On Health, Inc., a San Diego company which has been implementing the Healthy Dining program in Southern California since 1991 and publishing the restaurant nutrition guide, "Healthy Dining in San Diego."

Six of the restaurants are part of the TrEAT Yourself Well research study that involves extra promotion to encourage diners to make healthier choices when dining out.

The study also includes collecting questionnaires and sales data from the study restaurants to evaluate the success of the program. Research and evaluation are being conducted by Juárez and Associates, a research firm based in Los Angeles.

You are invited to visit these six TrEAT Yourself Well research study restaurants, try the special menu items, and add your opinions to the study. Additional information and coupons to participating restaurants are available by calling 1-800-953-DINE (3463).
